Teaching approach
Since I have done many hours of sub teaching, I can have a good idea of what teaching means to me.
First of all, I really believe that students have to be put in an English environment from the very beginning. I work with 2 to 4 years old in a private center and since we are always talking to them in English, I can tell that it is really working. Kids are sponges and it is so much fun when you hear them repeating and making effort to speak English. In classroom, it should be the same. There are eager to learn and it is our job, as teachers, to create this joy surrounding the English language. We have to create fun activities that enable them to speak and to interact with others in their second language because this is how we all learn our first language. It is the basis of all learning abilities.
Also, we have to find topics in which youngsters can identify with and need in everyday life but also things that can make them dream of think beyond their comfort zone. It is important to make them explore other avenues and to let them think that they can achieve anything they wants, if they put the effort and the work to do so. Our job is to guide them and to teach them what they need the make the right choices.
Teaching English as a second language is becoming more and more important because a bigger amount of jobs and careers demands people to have at least a basis in English. It is our job to make sure they obtain the requirements to be successful in life.
